According to Android users, these are the issues that they most want Google to fix with the wildly popular mobile operating system. Users want to see a very wide variety of bug fixes and enhancements, ranging from local language support, through better security, to basics like task management and better integration with Google services, and maybe even an alarm that can wake up a phone that's powered off (a standard feature of some other mobile phone operating systems). The oldest unresolved issues were first reported more than two years ago. Half of the issues have been reported by more than 1000 users each.
This data was compiled from the issue reports and feature requests that received the most user votes at Google's Android development site: code.google.com The 'User reports' column shows how many users have reported or voted for the issue there. The most commonly reported issues and requests are at the top of this list.
The links in the issue descriptions will take you to the issue page at Google.com, where you can read even more information and see thousands of user comments, workarounds and suggestions.

Users criticize Android's limited support for Arabic text display and input. Between 200 and 300 million people are native speakers of the language. Some manufacturers now add extra support for Arabic to their devices (e.g. Samsung, Sony), as do third party apps. Modified versions of Android, such as the Cyanogen Mod, may provide more support. After users submitted huge quantities of spam comments, Google has stopped accepting new comments on this issue at code.google.com. As Google cannot display comments, it's no longer clear what progress users are seeing with Arabic support on Android. |

Ad hoc wireless networking would allow Android device users to share the internet or LAN connection of a WiFi-equipped PC or notebook without requiring a wireless router. Android devices cannot connect to ad hoc networks - according to some sources, the reason may be that ad hoc network connections consume much more battery power, because the protocol requires that clients constantly monitor the network. |

For the unfortunate Android gadget owners suffering from this issue, the Android Market website claims that "There are no Android Devices associated with this account". The result is that users can only install apps by using the Android Market app on their Android devices; they can't initiate app installation from the comfort of their desktop PCs. The website also sometimes fails to retain language and other account settings. Unusually, Google marked this issue as 'declined' without any visible explanation, and closed it almost immediately. |

Users want to synchronize Android browser bookmarks with their online bookmarks stored in the cloud at Google Bookmarks. This function is available with third party apps, but not from Google. Is Google concerned about charges of anti-competitive conduct if it integrates services more closely, or is it just another uncoordinated big company? |

Users say that Google should stop playing net police and let device owners decide whether or not to record calls with their phones. Their main arguments are that recording phone calls is legal in some countries and that it is also legal if consent is given. |

* Combined with related issues 15022, 15872
** Combined with related issue 1109 - (Incidentally, a few developer reports claim that an RTC-driven 'wake from power off state by alarm' capability is actually a feature of some chipsets used in Android phones, and that it can even be activated and tested, with root level access).
*** Combined identical Issues 8668 and 9465
Notes on this data:
It's likely that the nature of the code.google.com site means that issue reporting is skewed towards developers and more technically knowledgeable users.
This list does not include a substantial number of highly-requested issues that Google subsequently reported as fixed. In most cases, some users contend that the issue is not actually fixed.
Most of the popular issues are classified at code.google.com as enhancements, not bugs or defects. In many cases, the distinction between these two categories depends largely on user expectations, which vary widely.
It was possible to create this list because – to its credit – Google usually continues to publish user comments, even if it has closed an issue.
In a few cases, the number of reports and the status/response that you see on this page may appear different from the data you see at code.google.com, because we've combined information from multiple reports for duplicate issues that have been merged by Google. We also did this with a few pairs of separate issues that appear to be closely related, even though they have not been merged by Google. Sorry, we inadvertently failed to do this with the Calendar iCal/CalDav sync issue, which should actually have about 2800 votes. We may correct this oversight in future.
We did not include about five popular issues which apparently only affect specific phone models (e.g. the Nexus One), and don't affect a wide range of Android devices. That's because this article is about common problems with Android, not bugs in any particular phone model. We also removed 3 or 4 issues which have seem to have been fixed, but not yet closed, as well as one issue which received almost no new comments from users during the past year.
